Can a kung fu master really walk across rice paper without tearing it?

No problem.

No sweat.

Sweat on the feet and no muscle control will cause the paper to tear. Practice on news paper. News paper is stronger so you must try not to move the paper even the slightest move of the news paper would have torn rice paper. When you get good at it than have people strike at you while walking on the paper. You must block the strikes without moving the paper. This is a great way to have fun while developing self control.

Thanks Shihan J. I needed that.|||Absolutely. I saw a Kung fu practitioner stood on a dozen eggs while perform a kata while we were in Hong Kong years ago. After the performance he ask for volunteer to replace him on top of the eggs. One of the smallest girl in our group volunteered. The eggs broke as soon as she step on them.|||yes....the point is to walk across it without making a sound or tearing, ripping, crinkling it. Ninjas can do it as well.

I can only do this on Meade 3-hole loose leaf paper...|||a shaolin monk can do this and they can walk through walls, if looked for they can not be seen

Whats the difference between kung fu styles?

Like tiger style, snake style, crane style etc....|||There are dozens and dozens of various kung fu styles.

Generally speaking kung fu is divided into a %26#039;hard style%26#039; and a %26#039;soft style%26#039; and in northern China kung fu emphasizes kicks and leg techniques, while in southern China hand techniques are emphasized.

A lot of the kung fu styles emulated the motions of animals so the Crane Style had a stance on one leg while blocking with an upheld knee and striking with extended fingers like flapping wings. Tiger style emphasized powerful opened handed palm strikes with fingers, Snake style emphasized crouching low to the ground with eyestrikes.

Shaolin Kung fu, a Buddhist style, was a hard style of kung fu with strong punches and kicks; while Wudang kung fu, a Taoist style, was a soft style of kung fu with a lot of blocks and counter-strikes and counter-kicks.

http://www.wudang-kungfu.com/

http://www.chinashaolintemple.com/|||the styles were derived by watching and immitating the movements and fighting styles of various animals. You can get the general idea of what the style entails by looking at the name of the animal. Bear style will focus on power and breaking bones, tiger will rip skin and break bones, crane will focus on balance, snake will focus on quick, fluid strikes, and etc. You can research on google for more details if you%26#039;d llike, but that%26#039;s the basic gist of it.

There are various styles of shaolin kung fu. there are teachers who learned these styles either from the priests in the shaolin temple, or from former priests who passed on the style at some stage or another in history. some of these styles are practiced as they are in the temple and some of these are evolved off-shoots from styles once practiced. Praying mantis - southern and northern, southern tiger, shaolin dragon are examples of the former. Hung gar, Wing chun, Choy lay fut are examples of the latter. It is all a question of what you define as %26quot;real%26quot; shaolin kung fu. As for learning as the priest do in the temple, you would have to live the life of a monastic person, at least most of the time. good luck.|||I%26#039;ve heard of teachers out there that still teach the original Kung Fu, but even the Chinese shaolin monks aren%26#039;t very legitimate now. Ever hear of Shaolin cola?

If you%26#039;re really interested, Shaolin Monks were originally monks first, and warriors second. Try checking out some Zen Buddhism concepts/teachers/books.|||Well, it depends on where r u. if you are in China, then there is indeed lots of places besides Monks temple, such as: Fujian Xi Shan wushu school, Fujian Quanzhou Shaolin wushu school, Guangdong Zhu hai wushu school etc.

If u r in USA or other countries, then u must go to local Shaolin school owned by those American Chinese, Chinese town, or Chinese Embassodor etc.

So is Shaolin boxing a type of kung fu?

im confused. i%26#039;ve just started doing shaolin boxing.... could you call it kung fu aswell?|||shaolin boxing is simply another way of saying shaolin kung-fu. you could also call it shaolin chuan because chuan is mandarin/chinese for fist or boxing. chinese kung-fu is constantly referred to as chinese boxing. the only difference is there are literally thousands of king-fu styles in existence and counting so the forms, terminology, pronunciation and methods of fighting will have similarities and contrasts. typically a martial arts name is a synonym when it comes to chinese martial arts. join my group: allma or all martial arts|||I born japan, not speak chinese, my lover speak chinese and japanese, he say wu shu mean martial art, kung fu mean great achievement any fields maybe in martial art.
