Is there shaolin kung fu near Rochester, New York?

I want to learn shaolin kung fu and I was wondering if there were any schools near Rochester, New York?|||USSD has schools in that area and they teach Shaolin Kempo. Their headmaster, Professor Matera was awarded 9th rank black belt by the Shaolin headmaster. Shaolin Kempo is a combination of Shaolin style and Japanese Karate and Jiujitsu. They teach the animal styles of Shaolin as th basis of the text, yet they use a streamlined approach morel ike Karate and use karate style gi%26#039;s. Then they use some of the grappling and counter styles from Jiujitsu to make it more street friendly.|||first off I know the area of rochester even though I live in the city.

There is not as many MA schools there like there are new york city and even in new york city I don%26#039;t think there is a legit shaolin kung fu school.

I haven%26#039;t seen any.

The problem with Chinese Martial Arts is that there are so many bad schools out there and so many sham teachers that teach you nothing but garbage and they train without resistance that it makes finding a legit one that much harder to find, even in a large city like new york. I%26#039;m convinced as a matter of fact that you won%26#039;t find legitimate CMA outside of a large metropolitan area. I could be wrong, I%26#039;m sure there is one somewhere, but I%26#039;m doubtfull and chances are it is not your area.

Even among CMA Shaolin and tai chi are the frauds of the frauds, they are MUCH harder to find a good CMA (except san da which is chinese kickboxing, basically) school than other CMA%26#039;s.

Go to the class, and if they don%26#039;t train with resistance then walk away. if they tell you to build up your %26quot;chi%26quot; and talk about magic powers, etc. walk away.

It is much safer to gravitate towards arts that have more competitive outlets like Muai Thai, boxing, bjj, judo, san da, sambo that are much easier to find a legit school. If you don%26#039;t know what you are looking for or at or able to tell a good school giving instruction and most importanlty teaching you how to apply it in a fight, then you could end up wasting your time and thinking you are learning when you aren%26#039;t.

I myself take a CMA and have tested it (sparred) against people outside my school and done well, That is why I%26#039;m harder on CMA than people who don%26#039;t take it. And I know how much crap there is floating around even from my short time training in it). So I%26#039;m not just out to crap on shaolin or chinese martial arts in general, there are many that are, but I don%26#039;t want to see someone make a mistake and support a school that doesn%26#039;t deserve to be teaching in the first place.|||pretty sure there%26#039;s a school or two in nyack. just type in kung fu nyack and you%26#039;ll get something. good luck!
